Applies To
ECU upgrades requiring Ethernet communication when using the following devices
- VCI2 + ECI (wired Ethernet connection)
- VCI3 + 19-pin USB cable (Ethernet over USB)
- KDS 2.0 diagnostic device and Android tablet
Symptoms
- The ECU upgrade fails with an error code (XXXX‑XX‑XXXX).
- Find an error code ⧉
Causes
- Incorrect or missing static IP configuration on the tablet
- Outdated Android OS or Google Play system update
- Unstable VCI2/VCI3 power supply or incomplete connection
- ECU or vehicle communication failure
Resolution
Step 1) Verify the equipment connections
Note:
Manually configured Ethernet settings may be reset during a system or OS update. After an update, verify the settings and reconfigure them if necessary.
Verify that the correct connection method is being used for the Ethernet-based ECU upgrade:
-
VCI2 + ECI: OBD → ECI → VCI2 → Tablet
Caution:
Make sure all connectors are securely connected and that no cables are bent or damaged.
-
VCI3 + 19-pin USB cable: OBD → VCI3 → 19-pin USB → Tablet
Caution:
Make sure all connectors are securely connected and that no cables are bent or damaged.
Step 2) Verify the static/fixed IP configuration in the tablet settings
- Tap the Recent Apps button (□) on the navigation bar.
- Open Android Settings and navigate to one of the following paths:
- Option A: Settings → Connections → More connection settings → Ethernet → Configure Ethernet device
- Option B: Settings → Network & internet → Ethernet → Configure Ethernet device
- Configure the static IP settings as follows, and then tap [Save]:
- IP address: 10.0.128.0
- Netmask: 255.0.0.0
- DNS address: 8.8.8.8
- Default gateway: 10.0.128.0
- Proxy: None
Step 3) Verify app permissions, the Android OS, and Google Play system updates
A. App permissions – GITMCommManagerService
When an ECU upgrade is performed, KDS 2.0 requests any required app permissions that have not yet been granted.
Make sure to select [OK] or [Allow].

B. Android OS & Google Play system updates
- Open Settings on the tablet.
- Navigate to About tablet → Software information.
- Select Google Play system update.
- Make sure the tablet is fully up to date. The minimum requirements are Android OS 13 and a Google Play system update dated 2024 or later.
Step 4) If the ECU upgrade continues to fail after completing Steps 1–3
Warning: Disconnect the vehicle battery only in a safe working environment.
- Disconnect the vehicle battery.
- Wait at least 5 minutes for all ECUs to power down completely.
- Reconnect the battery and retry the ECU upgrade 2–3 times.
Step 5) Restart the tablet if the symptom persists
- Power off the tablet completely.
- Wait approximately 10 seconds.
- Power the tablet back on and retry the upgrade.
