This article explains how to resolve Error Code 4001, which may appear when logging in or attempting to use ECU Upgrade or S/W Management on the KDS 2.0 diagnostic tool. In most cases, the issue is caused by a missing or outdated security certificate required for secure communication with the vehicle.

Symptom

Error Code 4001 appears when logging in or accessing ECU Upgrade or S/W Management.

Cause

This error may occur when the required security certificate is missing from the diagnostic tool or is outdated. This certificate is required for secure communication with the vehicle.

Resolution

Step 1) Initiate the background download of the security certificate

Log out, and then completely exit or close the diagnostic application.
Clear the application cache and data: Troubleshooting: Error message "4001"
Restart the diagnostic tool.
Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network.
Log in again.
Wait a few minutes, and then try ECU Upgrade or S/W Management again.

Note: The security certificate downloads in the background, so download progress may not appear on the screen.

Step 2) Try a different network (mobile hotspot)

If the issue persists after completing Step 1, connect to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot. Then log in again and retry the feature.

Step 3) Remove aftermarket devices (if installed)

If an aftermarket device, such as a dash camera, is installed in the vehicle, temporarily disconnect or remove it and retry S/W Management.

Step 4) Reset vehicle power (negative battery terminal)

Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal for more than 10 minutes. Then reconnect it and retry the procedure.

If the issue persists

Confirm that the diagnostic tool is connected to a Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot with internet access.
After logging in, wait 3–5 minutes before trying again to allow the security certificate to download in the background.
If possible, test the diagnostic tool using a different network.
