KDS 2.0 update NEH-02-0099 or later requires at least 20GB of free storage due to a large ECU Upgrade, which may cause installation failures on 64GB tablets. Users should manually clear storage or perform a factory reset, and then retry the update. Deleted ROM data can be restored using Auto mode or Manual Mode. If the issue persists, upgrading to a 128GB device is recommended. Contact support if assistance is required.
Applies to
- KDS 2.0 users
- This issue particularly affects 64GB tablet models.
Symptoms
You may experience one of the following issues when attempting to download software version NEH-02-0099, NVH-00-0099, NWH-00-0099, or later:
- Internet Update does not start.
- The following error message appears: “There is not enough storage space for the update.”
Why this happens
The latest update includes a large-scale ECU Upgrade. Although the update process is designed to delete existing unnecessary resources to free up space, the large file size requires a significant amount of available storage.
- Installation requires at least 20GB of free storage.
- Users with 64GB tablets are especially likely to encounter this limitation.
Resolution
If you encounter this issue, follow the steps below to free up storage and complete the update.
Step 1: Manually clear tablet storage
- On the tablet, go to Settings > Device care > Storage.
- Check the available storage. At least 20GB of free space is required.
- Delete outdated data, unused apps, or temporary files until at least 20GB of free space is available.
Alternative: Perform a Factory Reset
If you cannot obtain 20GB of free space by deleting files, you may need to perform a factory reset on the tablet (Samsung Android).
Warning: A factory reset erases all data, apps, and settings from the device. Make sure you know your Google/Samsung account passwords, GSW account password, and KDS 2.0 license key because they will be required after the reset.
- Go to Settings > General management > Reset.
- Select Factory data reset.
- Scroll down and tap Reset, and then enter your PIN or password if prompted.
- Tap Delete all to confirm.
- After the tablet restarts, reinstall the KDS 2.0 app and proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Retry the installation
- After freeing enough space, retry the update or ROM data installation.
- If the installation is successful but you need to recover specific ROM data that was deleted, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3: Restore deleted ECU ROM data using Auto mode
If you deleted ROM data that is still required, restore it as follows:
Note: The required ROM files will be securely downloaded from the server based on the existing ROM data profile.
- Open 'ECU Upgrade' and select Auto mode.
- Allow the system to automatically check the existing ROM data.
- Wait for the “Downloading” process to finish.
Step 4: Restore ROM data using Manual Mode
If Auto mode does not restore all required ROM files:
- Select Manual Mode in the ROM recovery function.
- In Manual Mode, select the required event or subcategory. The selected ROM data will begin downloading.
If the issue persists
If you are using a 64GB tablet, maintaining enough free space for large, current updates may be difficult even after temporary files are cleared.
- For improved long-term stability, we strongly recommend upgrading to a device with at least 128GB capacity.
- Actual usable storage is typically less than the displayed 64GB because the operating system and system files use part of the storage.
