This document addresses situations where an ECU upgrade stops at 0–5% and error “7000-31-7F10” occurs. Possible causes include unmet Ethernet routine conditions or a temporary communication failure. Follow the step-by-step troubleshooting procedures to verify the power status and Ethernet connection, reset the vehicle battery, and try alternate diagnostic equipment.
Symptom
The ECU upgrade stops almost immediately at 0–5%, and error “7000-31-7F10” is displayed on the screen.
Cause
- During an ECU upgrade over Ethernet, the ECU was requested to respond during the EraseMemory stage at 0–5% or the CheckDependencies stage at 99%, but the ECU sent a negative response.
- A temporary communication failure occurred along the Ethernet communication path between the tablet, VCI, and vehicle. Examples include a poor cable connection, an IP address mismatch, or an ECU internal processing delay.
Resolution (for a vehicle-to-diagnostic-equipment communication failure)
If “7000-31-7F10” occurs during a DCU update, contact the Vehicle Quality Department or the controller manufacturer.
Step 1) Verify the vehicle power status
Confirm that the vehicle is in the IG On state with the engine OFF.
If the battery voltage is low, connect an external power supply or battery maintainer.
Step 2) Inspect the Ethernet communication path
1) Check the status indicators on the VCI2 and ECI, or on the VCI3. The indicators must be green.
2) Securely reconnect all cables between the tablet, VCI, and OBD connector.
3) Verify the static IP settings in the tablet network settings.

4) Log out of the application and close it completely. Restart the tablet, and then retry the upgrade.
Step 3) Reset the vehicle battery power
Caution: Disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal may reset some vehicle user settings. Proceed with caution.
1) Turn the vehicle power completely OFF.
2) Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal for 5–10 minutes.
3) Reconnect the terminal, and then retry the ECU/DCU upgrade.
Step 4) Try another tablet or VCI, if available
If the issue persists, attempt the update using another tablet or VCI to rule out a diagnostic equipment issue.
If the issue persists
Contact the Vehicle Quality Department (Technical Hotline, GCCS) or the controller manufacturer for further assistance.
