KIA | KDS 2.0 | Resolving 'Not enough storage' Internet Update errors on 64GB tablets

KDS 2.0 update NEH-02-0099 or later requires at least 20GB of free storage because it includes a large ECU Upgrade. This may cause installation failures on 64GB tablets. Users should manually clear storage or perform a factory reset, and then retry the update. Deleted ROM data can be restored using Auto mode or Manual Mode. If the issue persists, upgrading to a device with at least 128GB of storage is recommended. Contact support if further assistance is required.

Symptoms

You may experience one of the following issues when attempting to download software version NEH-02-0099, NVH-00-0099, NWH-00-0099 or later:

  • Internet Update does not start.
  • The following error message appears: “There is not enough storage space for the update.”

Cause

The latest update includes a large-scale ECU Upgrade. Although the update process automatically deletes existing resources that are no longer required to free up storage, the size of the update files requires a significant amount of available space.

  • Installation requires at least 20GB of free storage.
  • Users with 64GB tablets are particularly likely to encounter this limitation.

Resolution

If you encounter this issue, follow the steps below to free up storage and complete the update.

Step 1: Manually clear tablet storage

  1. On the tablet, go to Settings > Device care > Storage.
  2. Check the available storage. At least 20GB of free space is required.
  3. Delete outdated data, unused apps or temporary files until at least 20GB of free space is available.

Alternative: Perform a factory reset

If you cannot free up 20GB of storage by deleting files, you may need to perform a factory reset on the tablet (Samsung Android).

Warning: A factory reset erases all data, apps and settings from the device. Before performing the reset, make sure that you know your Google or Samsung account passwords, GSW account password and KDS 2.0 license key. This information will be required after the reset.

  1. Go to Settings > General management > Reset.
  2. Select Factory data reset.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset. Enter your PIN or password if prompted.
  4. Tap Delete all to confirm.
  5. After the tablet restarts, reinstall the KDS 2.0 app and proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Retry the installation

  1. After freeing up sufficient storage, retry the update or ROM data installation.
  2. If the installation is successful but specific deleted ROM data must be restored, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Restore deleted ECU ROM data using Auto mode

If required ROM data was deleted, restore it as follows:

Note: The required ROM files are downloaded securely from the server based on the existing ROM data profile.

  1. Open 'ECU Upgrade' and select Auto mode.
  2. Allow the system to automatically check the existing ROM data.
  3. Wait for the “Downloading” process to finish.

Step 4: Restore ROM data using Manual Mode

If Auto mode does not restore all required ROM files:

  1. Select Manual Mode in the ROM recovery function.
  2. In Manual Mode, select the required event or subcategory. The selected ROM data will begin downloading.

If the issue persists

If you are using a 64GB tablet, maintaining sufficient free space for large updates may be difficult, even after temporary files have been deleted.

  • For reliable future updates, upgrading to a device with at least 128GB capacity is strongly recommended.
  • Actual usable storage is lower than the stated 64GB capacity because the operating system and system files also use storage.
