This document addresses cases where an ECU upgrade stops at 0–5% and error code "7000-31-7F10" occurs. Possible causes include unmet Ethernet routine conditions or a temporary communication failure. Follow the step-by-step troubleshooting procedures below to check the power status and Ethernet connection, reset the vehicle battery, or use an alternative diagnostic device.
Symptom
The ECU upgrade stops almost immediately at 0–5%, and error code “7000-31-7F10” is displayed on the screen.
Cause
- During an ECU upgrade via the Ethernet protocol, a response was requested from the controller (ECU) during the EraseMemory stage at 0–5% or the CheckDependencies stage at 99%, but the controller returned a negative response.
- A temporary communication failure occurred in the Ethernet connection between the tablet, VCI, and vehicle, such as a loose cable connection, IP address mismatch, or delayed internal ECU processing.
Resolution (Vehicle-to-Diagnostic Device Communication Failure)
If “7000-31-7F10” occurs during a DCU-related update, contact the Vehicle Quality Department or the controller manufacturer.
Step 1) Check the Vehicle Power Status
Confirm that the vehicle is in the IG On state with the engine OFF.
If the battery voltage is low, connect an external power supply or battery maintainer.
Step 2) Check the Ethernet Communication Path
1) Check the VCI2 and ECI indicators, or the VCI3 indicator. The indicators must be green.
2) Securely disconnect and reconnect all cables between the tablet, VCI, and OBD connector.
3) Check the static IP configuration in the tablet network settings.

4) Log out of the app and close it completely. Restart the tablet, and then retry the upgrade.
Step 3) Reset the Vehicle Battery Power
Caution: Disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal may reset certain vehicle user settings. Proceed with caution.
1) Turn off all vehicle power completely.
2) Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal for 5–10 minutes.
3) Reconnect the terminal, and then retry the ECU/DCU upgrade.
Step 4) Try Another Tablet or VCI, If Available
If the issue persists, attempt the update using another tablet or VCI to rule out a diagnostic device-related issue.
If the Issue Persists
Contact the Vehicle Quality Department (Technical Hotline or GCCS) or the controller manufacturer for further assistance.
