FAQ: Smart Key Code Saving Feature

Q1. What is the Smart Key Code Saving feature?

A1. The Smart Key Code Saving feature in the S/W Management menu allows a new Smart Key to be registered by entering the key PIN in the vehicle's Integrated Body Unit (IBU). 

Q2. How is the Smart Key PIN code set when the vehicle is produced?

A2. When the vehicle is first produced at the factory, the initial key PIN code is registered in the IBU. This PIN can be retrieved through the GSW system and is required when registering a new key.

Q3. When can a PIN code error occur during Smart Key registration?

A3. There are two primary scenarios:

1️⃣ An incorrect PIN code is registered in GSW

• When the initial PIN is registered in GSW at the factory, a value different from the actual PIN may be entered by mistake.
• In this case, registration of a new key will continue to fail when using the PIN retrieved from GSW.
• Because the PIN registered in GSW is incorrect, authentication will fail regardless of how accurately it is entered, as it does not match the PIN registered in the IBU.

2️⃣ An incorrect PIN code is entered after IBU replacement

• If the IBU was replaced after vehicle delivery, an incorrect PIN may have been entered and saved in the replacement IBU.
• If the existing PIN retrieved from GSW is not entered and a different PIN is entered by mistake, that value is saved in the newly installed IBU.
• The PIN retrieved from GSW will then not match the PIN stored in the actual IBU, causing new key registration to fail.

Q4. How should the PIN code be managed after control unit replacement?

A4. The following procedure must be followed:

1. After replacing the IBU, accurately update the PIN code in GSW.
2. Verify that the PIN retrieved from GSW matches the value stored in the actual IBU.
